There has never been a time when career guidance has been as important for young people as it is today. The landscape of education, training and employment opportunities that students need to navigate is more complex and more challenging than that faced by previous generations. We understand the challenges that may present for young people with SEND needs within careers and employment and it is our duty to prepare our students to overcome these barriers.
At Spaghetti Bridge, we recognise that all young people have their own unique career aims and aspirations. We also recognise that for many of our young people their prior educational and life experiences have impacted on their access to quality careers knowledge, information, advice and guidance.
Our Preparation for Adulthood (PfA) curriculum vision is to ensure all our students are able to make aspirational, realistic and informed choices; develop the skills, aptitudes and attitudes to achieve their personal best; as we continue to support and nurture them towards being ready for the world of work.
The unique nature of Enterprise Learning, with its focus on real-world learning through a project-oriented curriculum that includes community activities, Industry Experts, and experience of work-environments, means that students continuingly prepare for life beyond school throughout their time at a Spaghetti Bridge school.
The PfA Pillar curriculum has been designed to support student progress in two strands:
In order to ensure that students continue to progress in the world of work and learning, Spaghetti Bridge supports students to reflect on their interests, skills and aspirations in the world of education and work. We cover the following key areas:
We understand the importance of our students improving their independent living skills and how this supports their next steps, and therefore this area of our curriculum prioritises teaching essential life skills to help students become confident, independent adults. We cover the following key areas:
Additionally, all students are also provided with Independent Advice and Guidance throughout their Spaghetti Bridge journey.
As they start to approach the time of their transition to a post school destination (from Year 9), it is important that our students’ curriculum begins to focus more on deciding and preparing for a specific post-school destination.
At this stage, each student will have a transition plan that details the steps needed to successfully transition to their life after leaving school.
